Sushi!!!

In Iowa City, my favorite sushi restaurant is Oyama. By far. Their selection of sushi rolls is extensive, and they also have a large selection of appetizers and main dishes. Even though I don't eat fish, I still always manage to find something I LOVE there. First of all, their salad with GINGER DRESSING is to die for. The dressing is amazing. Their miso soup is also delish, as well as their tempura veggies and age dashi tofu.

As for sushi, I always get the Mantato roll (tempura sweet potato roll with sliced mango on top). Last time I also tried the Green River Roll (tofu skin, cucumber and cream cheese) but substituted the cream cheese for avocado. It was pretty delish as well. Sometimes I also keep the extra dressing from the salad and dip my sushi in it.... don't knock it until you try it!

In Des Moines, I recently went to Apare with my family. The great thing about Apare is that its technically a steak house (i.e. teppanyaki grill) but they also have a regular seating area and a sushi bar. We sat in the regular dining area and had some awesome veggie tempura, soup and salad, and sushi. Downside-- definitely NOT the awesome list of sushi rolls that Oyama boasts. I requested a special roll of sweet potato, cucumber, and mango. Not too shabby! It was much like Oyama's mantato roll, but I had to pay extra ($10 for the roll) since it was a "custom design".
